Beginner's Guide to Horse Riding in Jordan
What Do You Need Before Your First Lesson?
Horse riding is a rewarding sport that combines enjoyment, discipline, and a unique bond with the animal. But starting right requires preparation.
Choose a Verified Stable
The first step is finding a stable that meets recognised safety standards. Look for certified instructors, horses suitable for beginners, and a fenced or enclosed training arena.
Essential Safety Equipment
- Helmet: Wear an approved riding helmet every single session, no exceptions.
- Boots: Choose footwear with a clear heel (2–3 cm) to prevent your foot sliding through the stirrup.
- Clothing: Comfortable long trousers prevent chafing; dedicated jodhpurs or riding tights are ideal.
What to Expect in Your First Lesson
Your instructor will usually introduce you to the horse and show you how to approach calmly and confidently. You will learn safe mounting and dismounting, then basic steering and speed control at walk.
Building Your Skill
Do not expect to ride confidently after one or two lessons. Equestrian skill requires patience and a structured approach. Most beginners need 10–15 lessons to reach a comfortable level at walk and trot.
In Jordan Specifically
Stables are spread across Amman, Irbid, Zarqa, and southern Jordan. Lesson prices typically range from 15–40 JOD per session depending on the stable and instructor level.
